Woman: Maria Shaw is a world renowned celebrity astrologer and intuitive who has 9 books published to her credit and a column in The National Enquirer. She is also one of my mentors and favorite fellow reader who I highly recommend. I was just recently invited to be her National Fan Club Co-President and Michigan Fan Club Co-President and of course I had to say yes! With this opportunity, I got the chance to interview her not only for my website, but for the fan club newsletters we are putting out every month. This interview talks about her new hit CBS radio show, The Maria Shaw Show, on psychiconair.com, and how she got into her spiritual journey, a couple of her books, and what moves the soul behind the woman. We also have some celebrity predictions for you inquiring minds out there! Samantha Vandefeller: Maria, thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview for not you’re your fan club, but my website. I’d like to begin this interview first by talking about your new radio show. What do you hope your listeners gain out of listening to your show? Maria Shaw: First off, I hope we can entertain our listeners and make them laugh. Secondly, we want to provide a safe haven for the listeners to share their own spiritual experiences and not feel weird or crazy or feel like they are being judged, and also to let the listeners ask questions regarding these experiences or if they are curious about astrology or angels etc. Samantha Vandefeller: What can first time listeners expect on your show besides readings and interviews with authors and other highly recommended readers? Maria Shaw: We are adding things to the show all the time. We really like our listener feedback and will always put our fans first and if they want to see us do more ghost busting, for example, we will add that to the show. One thing we are currently working on to add to the show is astral dating and creating soul mate connections. And also spirit just seems to guide us into the direction of the show for that day, like for example someone will talk about energy healing and it seems like spirit guides us talking about energy healing during the whole duratation of the show. We get calls from callers wanting to know how to work with their chakras or manifest things in their life with energy. Samantha Vandefeller: What are you looking forward to about your radio show and fan club? Maria Shaw: One thing I am looking forward to about the fan club is connecting with the listeners and getting feedback. They are our big ears sort to speak. And the radio show, it’s all about giving people who feel awkward or silly a voice in their spiritual experiences or questions about metaphysical topics. Samantha Vandefeller: How does it feel to have your own radio show? What do you love about it? Maria Shaw: I’ve done radio since I was 18 years old. My first job was working at WWCK 105.5 in Flint, MI so I had shows and that, but it was an ego fulfillment. Now I am combining my soul’s work with what I’ve done for most of my life and I’m doing something that I love. This radio show is giving me a true voice and that’s what I love about it. Samantha Vandefeller: Be honest. Who is sexier? Joe or Matt? Maria Shaw: Laughs. They are both sexy in their own ways. Joe has this charm that people are drawn to. Joe also is like a rebel with a sensitive side. He’s got this whole macho man character down, but behind it all he’s really sensitive and he’s always making me laugh. Matt has these puppy dog eyes wants to always help people and plus he is younger than Joe so that gives him bonus points. Samantha Vandefeller: Laughs. Now let’s get into where it all started for you, Maria. What or who inspired you to get into metaphysics? Maria Shaw: My mother. I’m adopted and met my mom in my 20’s. My mom said “You know, you’d be really good at this” and she said that I could do astrology, tarot card readings, spiritual work. She taught me to read tarot cards and do astrology readings. Soon I started to do local home parties and fairs and it pretty much was word of mouth and it morphed into the celebrity and national levels. Samantha Vandefeller: I read that your mother died of breast cancer in 1995. Does she ever come to you in dreams or spirit visitations teaching you more about what she knows about Tarot and astrology or what you should focus on? Maria Shaw: I believe she’s around me a lot when I do spiritual work. I inherited her tarot cards after she died, and I sometimes combine them with my own set of tarot cards to do readings and I’ll feel her at my side helping me read the cards and giving the reading. Samantha Vandefeller: Who were your teachers and mentors on your spiritual journey besides your mother? Maria Shaw: A lot of my teachers and mentors were really just good friends who weren’t even in the new age field. They have been through tough times and it sort of helped me learn to work with people. I also went through a lot of crazy things, had a lot of people I know pass away, had the crazy relationships, and weird work situations. The people that inspire me are my clients and my friends. You can’t learn something just by reading a book, you have to experience it. Samantha Vandefeller: What does your family think of your career? Are any of them into metaphysics as well or do they stray away from it? Maria Shaw: My daughters always ask for readings and they are always saying “why aren’t our readings as good as everyone else’s?! You’re always wrong!” and that seems to always happen when they ask me about boys they like, for example, and I’ll say that they like them and then they go and confront the boy and the boy clams up. They then come back and say “You were wrong mom! You’re always right for everyone else except us!” Laughs. Samantha Vandefeller: Laughs. Now this is a random question but I have been meaning to ask you this question for as long as I have known you. Do you feel there is an astrological aspect that causes disabilities such as Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and mental problems such as depression? The reason I ask because I suffer from depression and was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in my twenty’s. Could astrology and psychology merge one day and help psychologists find better treatment plans? Maria Shaw: Yes I do feel that there is some sort of astrological aspect in our charts that says a person may have problems with depression or could suffer from a disability such as Autism. I wouldn’t be able to pin point it out for you since I don’t do medical astrology, but a medical astrologer would be able to interpret your chart and find better solutions to help you heal that aspect. Samantha Vandefeller: You have very high energy levels I’ve noticed from the first time I ever talked with you in the phone in May of 2007. You are always on the go…how do you manage to stay so energetic? How do you relax? Maria Shaw: I have a very high energy chart. I can talk fast and my mind moves a mile a minute and my thoughts I can’t say them or write them down quick enough and that’s the Mercury-Venus aspect of my chart. Also people give me energy and I enjoy what I’m doing. Doing what I love gives me that energy. How I relax is by visiting spiritual places such as my home in New Orleans, LA or Mackinac Island, MI. Samantha Vandefeller: In your book Soul Mates & Hot Dates, you list the qualities that make one person a soul mate. You write in your book about soul friends. Would you use the same characteristics as discerning the soul mate from a soul friend or is there a different way you can find out if one is a true soul friend? Maria Shaw: The difference between the soul mate and soul friend is the soul mate is here to help a person reach a spiritual goal in life. The person cannot do it alone so they have the soul mate to help walk on their path and together they complete some sort of task that they need to fulfill in this life. Meanwhile, a soul friend is there to support you and basically be your cheerleaders while you are on your spiritual path in life. Samantha Vandefeller: You did a Sun Sign book; do you think you’ll do any more books that teach the other aspects of astrology such as the rising sign, moon sign, the houses, the planets etc.? Maria Shaw: One of my goals is to do a beginner’s astrology book. A lot of astrologers write for a target audience such as they write for the more intermediate/advanced astrologer, where I tend to write in plain laymen’s terms and I want it to reach out universally to everyone, no matter if they are a professional astrologer or are taking astrology up as a hobby. Samantha Vandefeller: That sounds right up my alley! I’ll definitely be on the look out for that book! What do you love most about your career as an astrologer and intuitive? Maria Shaw: I love helping people and being able to reach out to them. I love having a voice and making a difference in people’s lives. A lot of my clients e-mail me and tell me that I have changed their lives. I am a flash light. Everyone is still in charge of their own destiny’s, but with me, I shine the light on their talents, what makes them tick; give them good times to go to the casino etc. I also love that I get to travel all over the country. Traveling is one of my favorite past times. Samantha Vandefeller: You have definitely made a difference in my life Maria and I thank you for it. Earlier, you mentioned that you had a home on Mackinac Island. What do you love about Mackinac Island? Do you plan on writing a book about the haunted history of Mackinac Island like you wrote about the French Quarter of New Orleans in The Enchanted Soul? Maria Shaw: There are so many ghost books out there about the Mackinac Island ghosts and Fort Mackinac spirits, but I may sign on to it one day. We shall see. What I love about the island is that everyone is happy. They are happy because they are on vacation. The island is isolated and the only way to get to places is by boat, walking, or riding your bike. The Scorpio-Ascendant of me likes being isolated sometimes. The whole island is my playground. Samantha Vandefeller: What is your favorite tarot deck and tarot spread? Maria Shaw: I’ve tried a lot of different tarot decks out there. I like using Rider Waite. And like I mentioned earlier, I like using my mother’s deck as well because I feel she is spiritually with me when I do tarot readings. The first tarot spread I ever learned was the 13 card spread that is in my Tarot Kit for Teens book which represents the houses in astrology. It is my favorite spread as well. Samantha Vandefeller: Now let’s get into the celebrity portion of the interview and some celebrity predictions. What celebrities do you wish to do a reading for that you have not yet met on your path and why? Maria Shaw: Wow. This is a really good question. I’ll have to think here for a minute. I guess from the new age community, Louise Hay. She is such a light worker. I also would love to meet John Edwards (the medium) again. I’d love to spend more time with him, he’s a very interesting person and for the record HE IS REAL. Samantha Vandefeller: My all-time favorite band, New Kids on the Block, just reunited. You can imagine how psyched I am about it. What do you see for the guys in the band and their careers? I will give you the guys names and birthdays: Donnie Wahlberg August 17, 1969, Jordan Knight May 17, 1970, Jonathan Knight November 29, 1968, Joe McIntyre (my personal favorite) December 31, 1972, and Danny Wood May 14, 1969? Maria Shaw: Wow, what a powerful combination. Two Taurus’s, a Leo, a Sag, and a Capricorn. Almost all the elements except for air and water represented. I think the Leo (Donnie) has had a couple down years, but I feel he’ll come out of it and will want to go into his own business. My concern for the Leo that once a Leo is a star, it’ll be hard to not be in the lime light. But I feel that he will be a successful business man. The first Taurus (Jordan) has done a lot of growing emotionally and spiritually. He is becoming wiser and very money motivated. He shouldn’t take too many risks, however, and lead a slow and steady life and things will be fine for him. As for the Sag (Jon), I feel that he is going to have a lot on his plate and I’m picking up marriage/relationship issues with him. He is going to love the opportunity to travel, but he could go into a depression or have panic attacks again. As for the Capricorn (Joe) it’s a very good year for him career wise as Jupiter, the planet of good luck and expansion, is in his sun sign. The second Taurus (Danny) will have an opportunity to break away from the boys and be successful in anything he puts his mind to. Samantha Vandefeller: Laughs. How neat! Best of luck and love to you guys! Now how about the hot topic, Britney Spears. Is she going to be okay? Is she going to get her kids back or will K-Fed prevail as the better parent? Britney is a Sag like Anna Nicole Smith and was on a self-destructive path like Anna. Maria Shaw: It’s funny that this case didn’t start out as who would be the better parent and then when Britney was on her self-destructive path, her dad stepped in and he seems to have her under control and to be a positive influence on her. The thing about Sagittarius people, like Anna Nicole, they always land on their feet. I do feel that Britney will get her kids back and it’s all because of her dad. Her dad is a major influence in her life and I think that is what is helping her getting back on track. Samantha Vandefeller: Will we be seeing less of Paris and Nicole yet? Maria Shaw: The public loves them. They represent wealth, beauty, love, arguments, drama, being young etc. As long as they have some sort of story, the media is not going to forget about them. In away, Paris and Nicole create their stories. So no, we will not be seeing any less of Paris and Nicole. Samantha Vandefeller: Who is telling the truth in the whole Rob Lowe-blackmailing nanny thing? Maria Shaw: I honestly feel that there is some truth behind it, but yet it is blown out of proportion. I feel it’s a big extortion case more than anything. Rob Lowe has been in trouble with the law before, but this time I feel he is actually telling the truth. Samantha Vandefeller: What do you see for Jay-Z and Beyonce’s marriage? Are they soul mates? Maria Shaw: They certainly feel like they are soul mates! I don’t know Jay-Z’s sign so I can’t really talk about him, but Beyonce is a Virgo. She has a successful career going and is very much in love with Jay-Z and she is ready to settle down and have children. Samantha Vandefeller: Drew Barrymore is my favorite actress. I just have to know, is she going to find the right man and have little Drews in the near future? She seems very in love with her current boyfriend, more so than with her other boyfriends and ex husbands. Maria Shaw: Drew is a Pisces and these next two years are all about relationships for Pisces. So Drew could settle down within the next two years with the right man and have babies. She is such a sweetie. I certainly hope she finds the love she is looking for. Samantha Vandefeller: I know that you have been following the presidential race. If Hillary and Obama were to be each other’s running mate, would the general election be in the Democrats hands? Or did they shoot each other in the foot so much that it could cause the election for the Democrats and John McCain and the republicans to still be in control of the White House? Will we see the Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama dream ticket? Maria Shaw: I honestly don’t feel McCain will be in the White House because astrologically wise, it shows someone who is new and will usher in change. They never ran for president or been in the White House. And Hillary and Obama will not work with each other. They damaged their relationship and they don’t want to work with each other. We will not see that dream ticket. Samantha Vandefeller: Maria, it’s been so nice talking to you and I thank you for taking time out of your day to let me interview you for not only your fan club’s newsletter, but for my website as well. Are there any last words you’d like to say to your fans? Maria Shaw: I want to say hello to all the fans in the fan club and encourage everyone to join the fan club.
