| JOE LAWSON INTERVIEW
Up Close &
Personal Joe Lawson, a.k.a Sexy Sag Joe, is CBS Radio’s The Maria Shaw Show producer and the guy who answers your calls when you call in for a reading. I got the chance to sit down and interview him for the newsletter discussing topics from what he loves about Maria to his love of Spongebob Squarepants to his acting career. From my point of view, I think he is a SexySag, and well, I’ll let you, the reader, decide for yourself if he really is a sexy Sag. I have to say it was fun interviewing Joe. He is quite a character. Samantha Vandefeller: Joe, thank you for taking time out of your hectic schedule and sitting down to be interviewed for The Maria Shaw Fan Club Newsletter! First off, let’s get to know the real you. What are your hobbies? Sexy Joe: I like exercising, camping, mountain biking, anything exercise related. I also love to play the guitar. A lot of my heroes happen to be guitar players. Samantha Vandefeller: I heard through the grapevine that you have an acting career. Will we see you in movies? Where could we have seen some of your acting? Sexy Joe: I do a lot of stage acting, so if you weren’t there you missed it. I did independent films. I was in “Where the Day Takes You” which has Will Smith, Alyssa Milano, and Sean Astin. It was before they became big names and it was filmed in Los Angeles. I own a copy of it that I found at a garage sale so you can see it was a HUGE hit! Laughs. Samantha Vandefeller: Laughs. What are your favorite musicians, movies, and books? Sexy Joe: Musicians and music genres: I love country music although I used to be a metal head back in the day. And for artists and bands I like Shania Twain, Danielle Peck (who I really do know and am good friends with. We talk and text each other a couple times a week), Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leopard. My favorite guitar players are Zak Wylde and Randy Rhodes. For movies I am a self-proclaimed Star Wars Nerd! I’m also a horror movie fan. I loved the movie Cloverfield, which is probably the best horror movie to hit theaters in the past 10 years. I liked The Blair Witch Project and I like anything with Sandra Bullock, including her chick flicks. For books I love the Harry Potter series and I also love the movies. Samantha Vandefeller: You are known as the rebel with a sensitive side. Is this true? Sexy Joe: That’s news to me but I like it. Samantha Vandefeller: Where would you like to travel to someday that you haven’t traveled to already? Sexy Joe: I’d love to go back to Los Angeles. I really despise winter and I’d rather be in some place warm. I’d also like to travel to New York (surprisingly, I haven’t been there since I do stage acting). I’d love to live some place warm and just come back to Michigan for Halloween. Halloween is my Christmas. Samantha Vandefeller: You are a wrestling fan I hear. Who’s your favorite wrestler? Sexy Joe: The one I am close to personality wise, that would describe my whole personality, is Chris Jericho. I like to pretend to forget people’s names, pretend to be this total big shot. The Rock is also another hero of mine and Stone Cold Steve Austin was a huge hero of mine. I’ve been into wrestling since I was a boy and I was going to be a wrestler, literally. Samantha Vandefeller: I was reading your MySpace page and saw that you love Spongebob. I do too! I find myself relating to Spongebob on the show more than to any other character. So what Spongebob character do you relate yourself to? Sexy Joe: Patrick. He is stupid and a big goof (and I’m not saying I’m stupid, I’m just a big goof). But it’s all based on Marine life, like Patrick is stupid because he’s a Starfish and Starfish literally have no brain, Squidward is crabby and doesn’t like being around people because Squids don’t like being around a lot of things and crabs like to hoard everything and that’s why Mr. Krabs is the way he is with his money. In a way, it’s educational as well. Samantha Vandefeller: Laughs. Now let’s get into the Sexy Sag – Love Machine side of Joe. What (or who I should say) would be your perfect woman? Maria wants me to tell you that you better say Maria! Laughs. Sexy Joe: That makes it easy! Maria Shaw is the perfect woman for me! She is smokin’ hot!! But then again, so is every other female caller that calls into the radio show. Samantha Vandefeller: What is your ideal dream date? Sexy Joe: My dream date is taking them to McDonald’s and super sizing their fries. Laughs. I’m kidding, actually I like taking the perfect woman out to a nice restaurant. Samantha Vandefeller: Do you think you are sexy? Why or why not? Sexy Joe: Not really, I’m just goofy, I’m a big dork. If you think being a huge klutz and being a dork is sexy, then yeah I’m sexy and that’s me! Samantha Vandefeller: Let’s talk about the radio show and your friendships with Maria and Matt. What do you love best about working with Maria and Matt? Sexy Joe: What I like best about Maria…I like to sit next to her. And Matt…I like to sit away from him. Really, my favorite part about being with them is making them laugh on air and off the air. If you could only hear what happens or what we say when we go off air. They crack me up. Maria is a huge laugh machine and that gets me going and plus she smells good. And Matt, I like to mess with him. I don’t have to put any effort into it. I just have to look at him and it gets him going. I am so blessed to be working with both of them. They are wonderful people. Matt and I are like an old Atari system, it’s basic and simple. Meanwhile, Maria gets me and understands me. Maria and I share the same thoughts and feelings. Samantha Vandefeller: Did you believe in the new age/metaphysical stuff before working with Maria? Sexy Joe: I’ve always been into this stuff so this is a dream job for me. Not to mention I am working with the best psychic in the world. Kiss kiss smooch smooch Maria! Samantha Vandefeller: What is different about Maria from other astrologers, psychics, and others in the new age field? What makes her stand out to you? Sexy Joe: Maria is very real. She legitimately cares about each caller. You are physically apart of her at the moment. She genuinely cares and it’s spooky when she’s picking up stuff, her face changes. I mean her facial structure literally changes when she is getting a reading from the other side. I love watching her change people’s lives. She nails stuff. Samantha Vandefeller: Give us a look into a regular working day of the life Joe the radio’s producer. What exactly do you do? Sexy Joe: I come in in the morning, laugh hysterically, have a lot of fun, leave the studio, sit in front of my computer and write up stuff. I then go home and try to make Maria look as good as possible, but that requires no effort as she looks good all the time. Laughs. Samantha Vandefeller: Laughs. Tell us a funny, PG-Rated behind the scenes moment that happened during the show or off air. Sexy Joe: The lady from The Edgar Cayce Institute was being dead serious about the fact that out of 90% of our brain we only use about 10%, I didn't say a word and I threw my hands up as if to say I know I use less then that. Maria saw it and busted out laughing because she knows I don't and the 10% I do use is 9% nonsense and 1% of it is used to function through daily life. Samantha Vandefeller: Laughs. Too funny. It sounds like it’s a total blast on that show. Now, I am just curious. If you were to fight Matt, who would win? Would you be willing to wrestle him one day? Sexy Joe: I would so kill Matt. And absolutely! I would love a wrestling match between me and Matt. I’d make him run like a little girl! Matt, I challenge you to ONE wrestling match! Winner gets Maria! Samantha Vandefeller: Continues laughing. Now I honestly can’t wait to see that wrestling match go down. And I’ll be sure to emphasize the one wrestling match when I deliver those fighting words to him. Sexy Joe: Thank you. Samantha Vandefeller: Let’s talk about the fan club. What are you looking forward to about this fan club? Sexy Joe: I’m just overly excited about the whole thing. Maria deserves all the press and accolades she gets. I’m happy to be a part of it. The fans of hers get to have a voice and I know she makes a huge difference in her fans lives. Samantha Vandefeller: To wrap up this interview, what have you learned from working on The Maria Shaw Show? Sexy Joe: Apparently, I am becoming psychic. Maria has said I am developing my abilities. I am starting to see and hear things, have vivid dreams, know what people are thinking etc. I could not be Maria and do readings, but I know what she is thinking and feeling. I knew I was sensitive, but my sensitivity has gone up 100% since working on the show. Samantha Vandefeller: Is there anything you’d like to say to the fans and listeners out there? Sexy Joe: Keep on rockin’, keep on listening, and keep on believing! Samantha Vandefeller: Thank you so much, again, Joe, for taking time out and letting me interview you for the fan club newsletter. It has been so much fun interviewing you. Sexy Joe: You’re welcome Sammy, great interview!
